6 Products For Healthier Hair

Living in Miami, aka. guaranteed frizzy-hair climate, definitely poses some challenges when it comes to keeping your locks smooth. This comes with saying that most events are held outdoors. While most of us combat frizziness with heat, we tend to forget about keeping our hair healthy too. Just because your hair IS dead, doesn’t mean it has to look like it!

Like our skin, our hair is susceptible to damage from the sun’s UV rays. Even a dip in the ocean can be harmful. That’s why it’s so important to protect your hair just as you would your skin.

I have naturally curly, frizzy hair that is also color-treated. So in other words, I pretty much apply heat to my hair on a daily basis … yikes.

However, years of experience dealing with my hair- usually resulting in my handy dandy flat iron- has taught me a few tricks to tame the frizz while mending those dead ends.

Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector

My go-to treatment! It’s safe to say I’ve tried almost every product out there to help reverse the damage on my hair. After only ONE use of Olaplex, it brought my hair back to life.

Skip forward two months, and I’ve seen a drastic difference after routine use. I use it slightly different than instructed. I begin by wetting my hair and then sleeping with it overnight – especially if I know I’m getting color in my hair that week. When I wake up, I rinse and wash.

Instructions on the bottle state: Apply a generous amount from roots to ends on unwashed towel-dried hair. Comb through once, and leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes or more. Rinse from hair, shampoo, and condition as usual. Use once a week or two to three times a week for damaged hair. *Works on wet, damp or dry hair.

Molton Brown Shampoo And Conditioner Purifying Indian Cress Set

I generally use this following my Olaplex treatment the next morning. The best part: Great for all hair types, frizzy hair included! The shampoo refreshes my scalp and leaves my hair feeling 100x softer. Meanwhile, the conditioner works on detangling my curls instantly.

With shine-enhancing amino acids, my hair has a lustrous, healthy-looking finish even after a blow-dry. The shampoo also has the best scent, combined aromas of jasmine, honeysuckle, and sandalwood. Um … Yes, please!! I feel like I just stepped out of the salon after every use.

Imperial Blowout Transformative Styling Crème

If you’re someone like me who applies heat daily, a key product to healthier hair is a heat protectant or blow-out creme. It’s also important to note that a lot of these products can protect your hair from the sun’s harmful rays!

This one is my ultimate favorite because it combines so many amazing ingredients to ensure your blowout lasts flawlessly for days. This product is the holy grail for thermal protection. It adds keratin and amino acids to your hair with every use, moisturizing your scalp and your hair simultaneously. Other ingredients like jojoba oil help to restore hair and prevent further damage.

Dyson Airwrap

If you google the Airwrap, you’ll come across a million mixed reviews. And like the reviews, I have mixed feelings for it. Basically, a love-hate relationship. After much contemplation, I purchased the Dyson after Christmas.

It comes with 6 different attachments. Four are for curling. I can tell you right off the bat: if you’re looking for a hair curler, this is NOT the product for you. My curls didn’t even hold long enough for me to finish my makeup.

The other attachments included two smoothing brushes, a pre-dryer and round volumizing brush. Usually, when I blow-dry my hair, I use a round brush and a blow dryer that gets pretty hot. An amazing feature of the Airwrap is it’s heat-control. This means it measures and regulates the heat of the tool while you’re styling. By keeping the temperature below 302°F, it helps protect your hair from extreme heat damage and maintain shine.

I‘ve 100% seen a big difference in the texture of my hair since I started using this about 2 months ago. Another additional benefit, my 1-hour blow-dry was cut in half!

However, with the heat controlled temperature, I‘ve found it difficult to get to my roots and get them fully dry (assuming this is why they include a “pre-styling dyer”). But, you have to pick and choose. I’ve seen my hair become much healthier since I made the switch; it may not be as straight, but I’d prefer wave to damage.

Usually, I’ll start with a quick towel dry and then use the pre-styling dryer to get some water out. Then, I switch the round volumizing brush and use as I normally would with my old blow dryer. I found that the other two smoothing brushes included didn’t really do anything for my hair.

In conclusion, I suggest switching from your hottttt blow dryer if you’re looking for healthier hair.

L’Huile Original Hair Oil

This oil contains Vitamin E that helps to naturally increase elasticity, hydrate, soften and restore shiny hair. It also includes high levels of Marula Oil which is high in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and amino acids. In other words, it’s effective at keeping hair soft, supple, and moisturized.

I am obsessed with this hair oil, mainly because its use is so versatile! I always start the same: Pump oil into the palm of your hand, rub hands together, and then run fingers like a comb through and down the lengths to spread evenly along with the hair to ensure even distribution. Then may be applied in the following ways:

Pre-Cleanse: Apply to brushed hair and rinse out before applying shampoo to remove impurities

Pre-Blow Dry: Apply to towel-dried hair and blow-dry as normal for additional protection.

Finishing: Work into the ends of the hair to control frizz, smooth and style

Touch-up: Apply a drop to ends throughout the day for a touch of shine as needed (my favorite way because it’s great for helping with my split ends after styling. It moisturizes without making your hair look or feel greasy.)

8H Magic Night Hair Serum

My last and final healthy hair hack is an overnight serum that leaves you with the hair of your dreams.

Remember how I said hair should be taken care of just like skin. If you’re someone who washes their hair nightly (or almost nightly), this is the product for you.

It is well known that, while you sleep, the body goes to work repairing itself, fortifying its cells from the inside out. This makes nighttime the best time to let powerful, nutrient-rich beauty treatments work wonders. Apply to wet or dry hair, making it silky smooth by morning. No need to worry about leftover residue or product transfer onto your pillow or bed linens. By morning, your hair drinks up every last drop of this serum, and you’re ready to start your day!
